The Different Types of Large Planters

Large planters are an easy way to change the appearance of your front yard and add instant curb appeal for your home. Large planters allow you to easily grow multiple small plants in a large pot and ensures that everybody can view your beautiful flowers even from the street. There is no longer any need to hide the beautiful plants behind large fences or shrubbery. A large planter will also allow you to easily move your plants from place to place if you ever leave your house. The first thing you should consider when purchasing large planters for your garden is the amount of space you have.

Next, decide what you are going to plant. If you have a large back yard, then you may want to purchase a pot that has several different uses. These planters may have different drainage holes in them so that you can easily maneuver water out of the soil. Many planters have holes large enough to hold a standard sized tomato plant. This way you can easily fill in large potholes in your yard and never have to worry about spilling food or liquid fertilizer from your back yard.

An Overview

Before you purchase your large planters, be sure that the soil in them is fine and strong. Most plants like to be planted in rich soil with good drainage. If the soil is too dry, then your plants will not grow very well and will often have trouble supporting themselves. When selecting your new soil, try to find soil that is slightly loamy so that your plants get used to it quickly. Most plants like to be planted in new soil so do not use old soil if you are replacing it for another purpose.

After you have selected the type of large planters and the soil you will use, you should also make sure to select plants that are going to work well together. Even if they are plants that have been accustomed to each other before, do not mix them too much. For example, if you have selected boxwood as your main plant and then add a sunflower, you will probably end up with a mess. The boxwood might look great when it is planted close to the ground, but it will not be at all attractive if you have placed it too high up in the air. Similarly, if you have planted a sunflower into a hole in the ground, it will probably not survive. It might survive just fine in the flower garden around your house, but the sunflower will not thrive as well without being planted in its own little niche.

When selecting the right type of large planters, filler material is also an important consideration. Plants like to have some sort of support as they grow and if you provide this with a large pot, you will be more successful with your gardening. There are a few different filler materials available, which range from wood chips to shredded paper and there is a huge variety available online too. Many of these are suitable for both home and commercial use, so you can choose what is best for your soil, plants and garden. However, you need to know which of these will work best for your situation before you start digging.

As well as large planters, you also need to be aware of how much soil you will need to fill in order for your plants to thrive. It is best to get a general idea of how much soil you will need to have mixed into the ground before you start planting anything. This allows you to have enough soil for healthy plants without the need for excessive amounts. Having the correct amount of soil is particularly important if you are going to use any kind of herb growing techniques in order to help your plants grow properly.

Finally, you need to think about whether or not you are going to be filling in holes or if you are going to be planting your plants directly into the ground. There are advantages and disadvantages with either method and you should consider each one carefully before you make a final decision. If you are planting directly into the ground, you will almost certainly want to use large planters to ensure that your plants are protected. Planting in holes provides you with a good amount of room for your plants to spread out but it will mean that you have to keep an eye on them at all times. If you are going to plant your plants directly into the ground, then you can leave the hole slightly larger than the roots of the plants so that they have room to expand when they grow.

You need to take careful note of the type of plants you are planning to plant and also of the soil conditions they require in order to thrive. For example, you will find that most flowering plants do better in acidic soils so you may have to use a pot that has a lot of lime in it if you are trying to plant flowers such as roses in this type of soil. Likewise, water requirements are important considerations as you will need to water your plants often during their growing season. In the summer months, you will need to keep your large planters out of the sunlight but you should ensure that they dry out completely between waterings.
